Text is tricky in VR. Gui Text won't work, and 3D text initially looks rubbish. With a few steps you can make it look awesome, AND make it render correctly behind other objects in your scene. So, check out this video, and become a 3D text sage in Unity 3D! The dawn of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) is glowing brighter than ever. With a groundbreaking number of VR/AR exhibitors at the Consumer Electronics Show 2017, we’re seeing VR/AR cameras and displays on everything from smartphones, to cars, to drones. Though gaming is often the first thing that comes to mind at the mention of these, the truth is that VR and AR have a huge opportunity to impact the way we work and create. Join our Safers for a coffee as they talk about what VR and AR mean for those of us in geospatial.
Part 2 for making a VR game for HTC Vive! Time to destroy some nasty evil cubes sent to ravage our peaceful corner of the universe. This time we will dive deeper into controlling game events with the Vive controllers and the "Steam VR tools for Playmaker". You need no coding skills in this series of tutorials. Go crazy! Part 4 for making a VR game for HTC Vive! Time to shoot things! So, we'll have to learn the basics about Raycasting. Along the way we'll also get the Playmaker Ecosystem up and running. We will control Line Renderer with an action, AND, to make this even more crazy, we'll tint the unity editor red! Let's get this thing done! Cheers! This episode of Coders includes a talk with a trio of entrepreneurs looking to start a VR (Virtual Reality) company. Called UnrealVirtual, the founders hope to create VR content using cameras and 3D imaging tools. One challenge for VR on mobile: bandwidth. Capturing VR requires a lot of data usage, as a multitude of cameras must capture surrounding video for the richest experience. Viewing VR, especially as a group, means syncing up a lot of data across networks. Thus far, mobile VR has latency issues. UnrealVirtual is hoping carriers and providers will figure this piece out soon.
Part 3 for making a VR game for HTC Vive! GAME OVER! Now we need to increase even further the difficulty level in the game. We need STRESS! As creative uses of technology take over our lives, the question is: who will drive the future? The creative, whose thinking isn’t held back by the tech? Or the coder, who understand how it all works? At the inaugural Lions Innovation Festival in Cannes we’re bringing together three speakers – a designer, a coder and a creative – to debate this issue: the future of creative innovation. Each speaker has strictly 7 minutes to win over the crowd and be declared the winner, taking home a one-of-a-kind Creatives vs Coders Champions Belt! The winner will be decided by those in attendance, but only after one final speaker has taken the stage: a wild card, picked from the audience! Creatives vs Coders is one of a regular series of events called The Tech Off, hosted by marketing technology agenc...

The sister project of EditorVR (https://youtu.be/FzjxRi5J4XI), Carte Blanche is Unity Lab's research initiative on VR-in-VR authoring tools for non technical users. We are looking at the future of virtual reality experience creation and to that end are exploring how creative minds like level designers and artists might approach the next generation of creation platforms. We are working on finding the best solutions for enabling non programmers to build virtual worlds inside VR, so we are designing and implementing a platform on top of Unity that will integrate with the rest of Unity services. This is a *concept video* showing the kinds of tools and interactions we envision for putting creation tools in the hands of consumers and artists. Unity Labs website: http://labs.unity.com Video...
